Thermal Expansion and Diffusion Coefficients of Carbon Nanotube-Polymer Composites

Classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations employing Brenner potential for intra-nanotube interactions and Van der Waals forces for polymer-nanotube interfaces are used to invetigate the thermal expansion and diffusion characteristics of carbon nanotube-polyethylene composites. Additions of carbon nanotubes to polymer matrix are found to increase the glass transition temperature Tg, and thermal expansion and diffusion coefficients in the composite above Tg. These findings could have implications in CNT composite processing, coating and painting applications.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, recently submitted for publicatio

Making or Breaking the Heart: From Lineage Determination to Morphogenesis

    Get PDF
The cues governing cardiac cell-fate decisions, cardiac differentiation, and three-dimensional morphogenesis are rapidly being elucidated. Several themes are emerging that are relevant for childhood and adult heart disease and the growing field of stem cell biology. This review will consider our current understanding of cardiac cell-fate determination and cardiogenesis—largely derived from developmental studies in model organisms and human genetic approaches—and examine future implications for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of heart disease in the young and old

Stokes drag on axially symmetric body in micro polar fluid

In a recent paper, Srivastava et al. (2016) have tested the proposed formula based on DS-conjecture Datta and Srivastava, (1999) of Stokes drag on axially symmetric bodies placed under micropolar fluid to improve the drag value under Oseen’s limit. In the present work, proof of the proposed drag formula is given for both axial and transverse Stokes flow of micropolar fluid under certain body geometry constraints mainly of continuously turning tangent on body curve in meridional plane as assumed in DS-conjecture. The general expression of drag immediately reduces to the value of drag in classical Newtonian fluid as micro polarity parameter k approaches to zero. The proposed expressions of Stokes drag are applied to various axially symmetric bodies like sphere, spheroid, deformed sphere, cycloidal body, Cassini body, Hypocycloidal body and egg-shaped body and results are in agreement with some known values available in the literature in the limiting cases

The problem of concentric pervious spheres carrying a fluid source at their centre and rotating slowly with different uniform angular velocities Ω1, Ω2 about a diameter has been studied. The analysis reveals that only azimuthal component of velocity exists, and the couple, rate of dissipated energy is found analytically in the present situation. The expression of couple on inner sphere rotating slowly with uniform angular velocity Ω1, while outer sphere also rotates slowly with uniform angular velocity Ω2, is evaluated. The special cases, like (i) inner sphere is fixed (i.e., Ω1=0), while outer sphere rotates with uniform angular velocity Ω2, (ii) outer sphere is fixed (i.e., Ω2=0), while inner sphere rotates with uniform angular velocity Ω1, and (iii) inner sphere rotates with uniform angular velocity Ω1, while outer sphere rotates at infinity with angular velocity Ω2, have been deduced

Finding faces for Gender classification using BPNN AND PCA based recognition

Face Classification system is a computer program which will classify a face into different categories as per certain criterias. We will be training our systems to classify the images into two septum. The first would classify the images based on human or non--human characteristics. The second category of classification would be classifying the human faces as male or female face. We will implement this using Back Propagation Neural Network algorithm. This pre-classification will help in reducing the total time required to recognize an image and hence increasing the overall speed. Face Recognition system is a computer applicaton that identifies a face of a person in a digital image by comparing the face in the image with the facial database of some trained images. This system can recognize images of a person with emotions and expressions different with those in the facial database. We will implement this using a mathematical tool called Principal Component Analysis and Mahalanobis Distance Algorithm. It can be used for security purposes at restricted places by granting access to only authorised persons. It can also be used for criminal identification

In the modern era, Disaster Management has become an important field of study. With the advent of telecommunication system and their possible integration with the existing disaster management system, it is possible to minimize the after effects of disaster. In this paper we present a study of available and possible disaster management system based on wireless mobile telecommunication. In order to use such a system in the actual world security requirements such as availability, accountability, integrity and confidentiality must be ensured by the disaster management system
